Hoi An to Ho Chi Minh City

Monday March 8th

Hotel minibus took us to Danang airport where we boarded a Jetstar flight to Ho Chi Minh City. The weather was overcast for the first time in ages, but still 33 - 34C.

At the airport, we commandeered a cab from one of the two firms the Saigon hotel had said were ok, handed the driver the instructions in Vietnamese which the hotel had emailed and I had done my best to copy, sat back and enjoyed the ride which was as entertaining as any in a theme park with apparently kamikase motorcyclists, cars and pedestrians all seemingly vying for the same patch of tarmac.

The Saigon MiniHotel 1 is well situated, up a quiet alley, modern, clean, compact and well appointed, and I'm sure we will be comfortable here for a few nights.

Walked to the Saigon River waterfront, watched gaudily illuminated restaurant cruise ships coming in to berth, then managed to retrace our steps to the hotel despite nightfall.

  1. Hello!

Sounds like Mummy must be feeling a bit better. Hoi An is probably better than many places to be poorly, it's quite tourist friendly.

I hope you're liking Saigon, Mummy's wanted to go for so long. Check out the statue of the guy outside the main market (in the middle of a roundabout ...or freeforall...depending on your point of view). I think it's of the first guy to use carrier pigeons or something which equally tickled my fancy...I wrote it in the guide book.

I've bought Karaoke and microphones for the Wii and I'm having a 30th Karaoke party at ours this Saturday. I suspect Terra won't be impressed! However, it may scare away the Kitler who keeps sneaking in to steal Terra's food... naughty Kitler.

We've permission to go to Libya, so now we need our passports back from the translator (who, worryingly, gave us a raffle ticket in return for them), flights and a visa and we can then enter the country, but not move around until we find a tour guide...I hope Dave will sort us out with one of those! Very excited about seeing Leptis Magna!

    All's well otherwise.

  2. Is Kitler a cat burglar, or another faschist invader?

We haven't got close enough to the statue to discover who it is, I thought it was a king. However we have crossed all the big roads around it.
